The Challenge | Space Jockey

Build a tool that allows a user to virtually experience riding on any one of NASA’s current Earth observing satellites and allow for co-localization of data from various instruments.

VR Jockey

VR JOCKEY is a platform that lets its users have an immersive experience of being on a Spacecraft and viewing Earth, Mars and Other celestial objects from there using Virtual Reality so that users get to interact with what they see unlike in normal videos

The Last Jedi

VR JOCKEY is a platform that lets its users have an immersive experience of being on a Spacecraft and viewing Earth, Mars and Other celestial objects from there using Virtual Reality so that users get to interact with what they see unlike in normal videos It also uses the concept of co-location of satellites for their efficient use in monitoring the earth.

Raw 3D models for satellites were taken from https://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/models and then textured using Blender and then used as objects in Unity.

FEATURES:

•Co-location feature allows us to know if satellites are viewing same object.

•Users can host other people onto the location they are currently viewing.

•Users can navigate through the space shuttle they are viewing and experience its minute details as if they were really inside the shuttle.

IMPACT:

•This platform has a large impact on Space exploration as it gives its users a chance to experience space crafts and celestial with great detail in the comfort of their homes.

•Serves the purpose of efficient utilization of limited no. of satellites.

•Platform uses colocation to know which satellites are viewing common area, so that one of them can look somewhere else.

•Offers better control over auto-locomotion satellites

• People controlling now have access to intricate details of auto-locomotion satellites.

SUSTAINABILITY:

Proceeding further with the implementations we would like to:

•Use real-time data of coordinates of satellites to facilitate a virtual tour.

•Better specs for colocation through use of efficient algorithms.

•Making the platform more informational for students, developers, professionals to use it freely.
