Today, cities are largely unplanned, accidental and spontaneous, i.e. they are not holistically designed. This results in an anarchic scenario if the overall infrastructure is considered.
Repairing outdated or broken cities have huge maintenance and operation costs. It’s inexpensive and more efficient to build new ones using a modular approach. A symbiotic systems approach, involving large scale planning can be used to achieve a higher living standard for all the inhabitants of Earth. A circular plan enables the most efficient use of Earthly resources and structural engineering techniques with least energy expenditure. Hence, all the modern and advanced fruits of science and technology could be made available to all.
Cities should be redesigned from the ground up so that they actually meet human needs instead of just crowding a bunch of people together and it would have the most significant impact in reducing the amount of land needed to house 10 billion people.
