This toy app visualizes the lifecycle analysis data associated with a few foods, displaying inputs from the natural and man-made environment, and outputs to the natural environment associated with producing the selected foods. My biggest challenge was finding and munging data: the four examples included here are pulled from ecoinvent, but there's currently no good open source resource for lifecycle analysis data. It's a small React/Redux app, without a backend, just designed to play around with reading and visualizing this data. My biggest takeaway from this weekend: pulling LCA data out of high-cost proprietary databases into an open source standardized format could make an app like this possible. It's a shame that right now there's no free, easy way to read and explore this data!
