The Challenge | Dictionary of Earth

Develop a creative way for the public and scientists alike to learn the definitions of Earth-related scientific and technical terms, using the power of crowdsourcing.

SEED CAPSULE

Using seed as a biomimetic tool of knowledge growth and transfer we develop the Seed Capsule which operates like a library of Earth explaining definitions and technical terms through visualization technologies and other interactive tools.

In the era of science and technology the increasing volume of data and information makes it difficult for both public and scientists to cope with. So there is a vital need for proper and accurate communication between scientists and people. Moreover it is necessary to find a creative and funny way so everyone can access Earth-related information abolishing education inequalities.

Inspired by nature by how life begins and evolves and particularly by the successful mechanism behind that we choose the seed as a biomimetic tool of knowledge growth and transfer. A seed is an embryonic plant enclosed in a protective outer covering. In other words it encompasses condensed information and vital knowledge for future development. So we develop a prototype capsule of knowledge and interaction which operates like an open educational tool, using the shape, philosophy and functional mechanism of the seed.

It is an ECO-friendly and energy independent metal construction which uses state of the art visualization technologies, various cameras and interactive tools. It operates like a library of Earth, explaining and categorizing the definitions of Earth-related scientific and technical terms and additionally it gives every user the opportunity to upload staff, for example photos of an unregistered insect or plant. Also it is a tool that can create a live cooperative global network for dialogue and interaction like the concept of World Café. It has a capacity of 1- 2 individuals, an area of about 5,5 square meters and it is accessible to people with disabilities. The ventilation system is carried out axially from the roof and under the floor there are the electrical – mechanical facilities and the batteries for the independent function.

Seed Capsule can be placed in public areas and can be used by Government, Industries, Universities and other responsible bodies or organizations in order to be accessed free by the public via internet code. So a seed of innovative knowledge transfer and translation can be planted everywhere providing access to new age data and information.
