Improvements
Functioanl wise and application wise improvements are possible, e.g.
A data set should be added with more species ans their pray.
The alignment of the hunter and the prayer distribution has to be set up manually.
The refresh after changing the hunter/pray species does not yet work which is simply a bug.
The intention of this app is to make the concurrence between species visible. As of now the app considers only one driving factor, the depencency on other species as a food by having species in the selection which are feeding on each. Other Factor like climate and influence of mankind are not yet included.
The screen shows one shortcoming of the MAP API. Is relatively easy just to select one single species but the API does not to have in one query groups of species. Due to the limited time no further analysis of this issue has been done.
The applöication has been implemented on the electron framework on a WIndows 10 System using commonly available java script libraries as Ink, jQuery, leaflet and eaflet-openweathermap.js"
It makes use of the MAP API of GBIF.
The Source code is held at https://github.com/merdmann/3delectron (pls. don't get confused by the name. The project has been handy!
As shown below the app allows directly to compare the distribution pattern of a species on top of an open street map. The upper part shows distribution of Bussards and the lower half fo the screen the distribution of mice. The ad hoc assumption is that busards feed on mice. Consequently the density should decrese the more Bussards have been found.
As a result of the challenge I build a small electron APP which allows to select a species from the GBIF database and to show the geographic distribution of the geographic occurance of the species using the GBIF MAP service.
