Our project begins with the analysis of the aerosol particle concentration before a severe rainstorm takes place – taking an example from the coast of Sicily in autumn 2016 (November 19th).
We examined this event further and, by using data from Terra and Aqua satellites, we managed to observe high concentration of aerosol particles coming from the Sahara desert and cities nearby.
Aerosol particles moved forward to a weather front which was created between Algeria and Morocco just few days before the event took place.
With our application we want to examine the evolution of both aerosol concentration and weather condition from ground and satellite data. We compute them with a mathematical model and thus produce a map of the risk zones in danger of experiencing severe rainstorms.
Hackathon Power Point presentation
Our goal is to provide an instrument and a set of information to civil authorities and companies in order to protect people and their assets from disasters.
We designed the website mainly for business customers that actively need weather predictions in their operations. Puddle is a solution to enhance investment decisions about agriculture or construction sector. Furthermore our real-time forecasts are useful for transports and rescue operation.
In the era of Big Data, we also designed our system to produce structured data and provide an Application Program Interface (API) to Analytics or Weather Companies.
In addition, our service is easily replicable worldwide. This gives us the opportunity to involve a large number of customers without having too significant cost implications.
