The Challenge | Every Cloud

Map severe weather conditions with the presence of local atmospheric aerosols to identify potential connections!

Pro-Meteo

Climate control through aerosol manipulation, employing biologically inspired filtering techniques.

Pro-Meteo

Our team’s name Pro-Meteo, is actually a play on words, hinged on the name of the mythological Titan Prometheus, the deity which stole fire from the Mount Olympus and gave it to men.

Our objective is somewhat similar, since we plan to steal a form of power until now only reserved only to higher beings – in a Greek analogy the Hyades nymphs: the one of decinding on the fate of rain and clouds. Our project, linked to the “Every Cloud” challenge, is a feasibility study about an idea fitting into a subfield of the science fiction-y field of study named “Geoengineering”: that of Climate engineering, a science deputed, among the other things, to obtain – even if modest – control capabilities over the climate.

Namely, our scope is to manipulate, exploiting biomimetic principles, the atmospheric particulate matter, in a way or another present in every and each zone of the planet, with the main goal of either creating favourable conditions to achieve the coalescence of various drops around the particles - and hence rain – or to change the way the atmosphere and the thermal radiation, generated by both the Sun and the Earth, interact, as to obtain desired thermal conditions.
