The people have spoken! This is the project that captured our hearts.

Welcome to the web page for the Space Apps 2017 Chicago location! The Chicago location will be hosted at DePaul University's Levan Center with the support of the DePaul Geography club and Studio Chi, with prizes donated by "Guardians of the Galaxy 2"!


Venue

For the first day, the venue will be at the DePaul University's Levan Center, room 405, at 2322 N Kenmore Ave (Chicago, IL). There is nearby parking, and the closest public transit is the Fullerton Brown line. The building is handicap accessible. Inside the building is a food court with several restaurants, as well as nearby restaurants in walking distance. On the second day, the event will still be at Levan Center, room 405.

Schedule

The event begins at 9am Saturday morning and ends 4pm Sunday afternoon, at which time teams will have their projects reviewed. More detailed schedule is pending. 

Project Pages

Participants are responsible for their own project pages, provided by the Space Apps organization. External websites are encouraged. Projects nominated for global judging will have three days to post an explanatory video on their project page.

Judging and Awards

Three judges will select a winning project and a runner up from the Space Apps Challenge Event. Winning teams will receive a prize pack generously donated from "Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2". In addition, an audience/participant poll will select a "People's Choice" project. 


Remember the following:

  • Laptops and computers will not be provided. A podium with computer will be provided for pitching projects at the end of the event. 
  • Food will not be provided at the event, but there is a small grocery store within the building, as well as restaurants (inside the building and surrounding the building)
  • There is a parking garage at the nearby "Whole Foods"at 959 W Fullerton Ave. Please be careful not to park in areas that require permit or sticker.
  • In addition to providing prizes to winning projects, Guardians of the Galaxy will be providing prizes to participants who utilize their hashtag to talk about Guardians of the Galaxy and the Space Apps Challenge. More details at the event.  

Schedule

Saturday, April 29th
  1. Check-in begins at  DePaul University's Lincoln Park Student Center in Room 325, 2250 N Sheffield Ave, Chicago, IL 60614 


    From 9am to 9:45, get familiar with the space, introduce yourself to other participants as they arrive, and start brainstorming about how to address the Space Apps Challenge. 

  2. Opening Remarks, Challenge briefing, and an overview of how to create and work with the Space Apps Participant Pages and other resources. 

    After that, get going!

  3. Lunch break 

  4. Presentation Preperation

  5. Progress Briefing

  6. Wrap up for the space (But for teams that want to keep going through the night, they'll be shown where they can move to and keep working on campus)

Sunday, April 30th
  1. Still at Levan Center room 405!

  2. Submissions Deadline; Prepare for team presentations

  3. Team Presentations; judges vote afterwards

  4. Awards, group picture, and wrap-up!
