Welcome to the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2017 in York!

Space Apps is back in York! We are very proud to be part of NASA's Space Apps Challenge which is becoming a tradition to collaboratively develop innovative solutions for global problems. We are very happy to announce our local sponsors MaplesoftBytemark, Rapita Systems and Transcendit. We are also very thankful of the support from the Department of Computer Science at the University of York which allowed us once again to use their brilliant facilities.

All keen students, scientists, programmers, technology enthusiasts, designers, engineers and everyone else is invited to take on challenges that we as global community face. These challenges revolve around the topics The Earth and Us, Planetary Blues, Warning! Danger Ahead!, Our Ecological Neighborhood and Ideate & Create! Gather a team of people with a diverse background, choose your challenge and register for this year's Space Apps Challenge in York. Over 48 hours you work together to develop and innovate solutions to your challenge. Your solution doesn't need to be an 'app' in a traditional sense. It can be a website, mobile app, concept or hardware prototype. Your team will present the solution to an audience and a jury consisting of industrial professionals and well-regarded academics. The best solutions will then compete on a global level!

We expect you to bring your own device (e.g. notebook, tablet) and other specific tools you might need for your project. Internet access (via WiFi) and power sockets will be supplied to all attendees. We will provide a free lunch, dinner and breakfast, as well as a constant supply of refreshments, tea and coffee, throughout the event.

Our venue will be open throughout the event and you are welcome to hack all through the night. There will always be at least one organiser present to help you with any questions you might have. Directions to the Computer Science Department can be found here.

Please find our provisional schedule below (note slight changes are possible on the day).

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us via spaceapps@york.ac.uk !

Best wishes,

Your SpaceAppsYork team
